what is balloon sinuplasty?

Balloon Sinuplasty is a newer, minimally invasive procedure for patients with chronic sinusitis that have persistent symptoms despite treatment with medications. The procedure involves using a small, flexible catheter to dilate blocked sinus passageways to facilitate better drainage of the sinuses into the nose. It has been shown to be effective at relieving the symptoms of chronic sinusitis such as recurrent infections and facial pain/pressure. While not every patient is a candidate, it can provide a faster recovery with less pain than traditional sinus surgery. In many cases, this can be performed in the office, avoiding the risk and expense of surgery in the operating room under general anesthesia. The procedure is illustrated in the video below.
